Buxton Opera House

Buxton Opera House, with its Baroque Revival interiors opened in 1903 and was designed by Thomas Matcham, one of Britain’s greatest theatre architects, who was also responsible for many of London’s great theatres including the London Palladium and London Coliseum.

The opera house hosts music, comedy, drama, ballet and opera throughout the year and is the home to the Buxton International Festival in July and the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in August.

The Pavilion Arts Centre and Cinema

Buxton’s second theatre venue, The Pavilion Arts Centre sits behind the Opera House in the Pavilion Gardens and also hosts a 360 seat cinema that shows the latest releases.

Buxton Fringe Festival

Buxton Fringe is a vibrant open arts festival staged annually in July, alongside the Buxton International Festival, in venues throughout Buxton.

Pooles Cavern and Country Park

Pooles Cavern is a spectacular limestone cave on the outskirts of Buxton.  It is situated on the edge of Buxton Country Park, where visitors can walk on woodland trails to a viewpoint at Solomon,s Temple, overlooking the town of Buxton and surrounding Peak District.

Pavillion Gardens

Pavillion Gardens is an historic, Grade II listed, venue dating back to 1871, set within 23 acres of landscaped gardens in the centre of Buxton.
