Buxton Opera House, with its Baroque Revival interiors opened in 1903 and was designed by Thomas Matcham, one of Britain’s greatest theatre architects, who was also responsible for many of London’s great theatres including the London Palladium and London Coliseum.

The opera house hosts music, comedy, drama, ballet and opera throughout the year and is the home to the Buxton International Festival in July and the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in August.

Pooles Cavern is a spectacular limestone cave on the outskirts of Buxton.  It is situated on the edge of Buxton Country Park, where visitors can walk on woodland trails to a viewpoint at Solomon,s Temple, overlooking the town of Buxton and surrounding Peak District.
